Eulogy given at funeral by a grandaughter:
It is with pride that I stand here today, to speak to you about Ambrose Duncan Lafave, a proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
When we think of Grandpa, a smile always shines through. We will always remember the times that we spent with him and how he spoiled us endlessly. Our most cherished memories of him were as a chef. No one could make homemade soups and specialty breakfasts like Grandpa. When we were little and had sleepovers, we loved helping Grandpa take care of the courthouse. I remember us playing hide and seek, running up and down the halls trying to scare each other and sometimes scaring him instead. Grandpa was an honorable man who was loved by many. He eagerly shared himself, his belongings, and his heart. When asked how he was feeling, Grandpa would always say, “not bad for an old fellow. The past several years have been difficult on you Grandpa. You missed Granny and longed to be with her. It is time for you to join her. It is only fitting Grandpa that we are gathered here today in St. William’s Parish, a church you helped to build. It gives us great comfort knowing that your resting-place will be in Martintown. You’ve gone home. Grandpa thank you for all the wonderful memories. You may be gone from us,but you will always remain in our hearts.
THE FOLLOWING IS A POEM WRITTEN BY GRANDAUGHTER CAROL STANG, AND READ BY HER AT FUNERAL:
Our Dearest Grandpa - This poem is for You.
Grandpa, I know you can hear us today
So please listen to what we say
Even though you have set the bar very high
We are proud to say that we will always try
To be the best person that we can be
No one was sweeter than thee
We may not have gone to see you often
But our love for you will not be forgotten
Please say Hi to Granny and Dad
Let them know that today we are sad
But we know that you are looking down with love
You are as pure as a white dove.
Today we say goodbye to our Gramp
Until the day we meet again, you will always be our champ.
