I heard Sister Akers speak recently. My understanding was that she was not teaching her views. She taught doctrine in accordance with the church. However, when contemporary issues arose for discussion, then she gave her views, along with others (a discussion). The bishop missed an opportunity to set an example of respectful dialog to the other communities. Wouldn't have been great to see that?

I find this whole topic to be quite frankly disturbing. When I send my children I want them to receive a Catholic education. On that teaches what the Church teaches on the matter. Not what some self-enlightened upstart theologian has to teach to help further erode faith in Catholicism.

To present the above post as the arch-bishop of Cleveland as having ordered her to silence based simply upon her having made an off hand comment is completely ridiculous and deceptive. For this arch-bishop to censure someone as strongly as he did it would have had to been an on-going problem and an integral part of her curriculum. Sr. Louise Akers got exactly what she wanted to.

[...] Catholic bloggers are “…. wondering and thinking in my own conscience that there has to be a better way. In the long run I believe an action like this does far more harm than it does good.” Or not: “It’s also distressing that so many women who came of age while feminism was expanding, can’t understand that equality does not necessarily mean that everyone should be exactly the same. God created us differently and his plans for us are different.” [...]
