The Last Supper–Leonardo DaVinci

November 14, 2010 By: frbobscorner Category: Media No Comments →

This is a picture of the Last Supper by Andy Warhol. I know it is a little hard to see, as I had to capture it from YouTube. On first seeing it, I thought ‘how sacrilegious’. If you look closely you can see the Last Supper by Leonardo DaVinci in the background, and superimposed on the painting are symbols from Dove Soap, and G.E.. Can you make any sense out of what he is trying to say and do, or do you just see….. ? Well you judge for yourself, and then view the video from which I captured the painting. You might be in for a little surprise!

Thank You to Server: 'Host I Can'

September 28, 2010 By: frbobscorner Category: Internet, Media 1 Comment →

I use wordpress  for easy posting. I don’t really know very much code, so a publisher like wordpress is absolutely essential. HOST I CAN hosts my blog, however, and I had not updated wordpress since I began blogging in 2005. Today, I contacted HOST I CAN through a chat service on their site and asked, if they could update wordpress from 2.3.2 to 3.0, and how much would it cost? Response was immediate: “I’ll update it right now.” Wow, I couldn’t believe it! If I had done it – I might have lost everything and spent hours working at it. I had googled the web and found update services that wanted to charge from $100 on up. Thank you HOST I CAN, I highly recommend your wonderful hosting service!!!!

A HOST YOU CAN DEPEND ON!

Global Take Over By The Internet

November 20, 2009 By: frbobscorner Category: Media No Comments →

I remember when the Fax Machine was the big new controversial event in business, and the parish. No need to mail out documents, just fax them. I think we got our first fax machine in our Diocese in the mid 80’s. Well twenty-five year’s later there is a new kid on the block – the global block – and it is taking over in ways the fax generation couldn’t even imagine. John Allen, the Catholic columnist, puts it this way: “The Internet is both the leading symbol of the globalized world as well as one of its primary drivers. In 1995, according to the Web site “Internet World Stats,” there were 16 million Internet users in the world, representing .04 percent of the global population; as of June 2007, there were 1.13 billion users, or 17.2 percent of the world, remarkable growth in little more than a decade. According to the Worldwide Online Population Forecast, by 2011 roughly 1.8 billion people will be logging on, representing 22 percent of the global population – almost one-quarter of all people on earth.”

Question: How many people visit?

November 13, 2009 By: frbobscorner Category: Media, Personal No Comments →

I often get the question, how many people visit frbobscorner.com. I thought I would show you this graph that is compiled by sitemeter. It’s not a lot when compared to traffic on the popular big sites, but enough to motivate me to continue posting.

Pope Challenges Catholics to Understand and Use New Media

November 03, 2009 By: frbobscorner Category: Faith & Culture, Media, Pope & Vatican No Comments →

New media are not just instruments for communicating, but they are having a huge impact on culture — on the way people interact and think, Pope Benedict XVI said.

The content of the Gospel message remains unchanged, he said, but the church must learn how to transmit that message to new generations and must do so by taking advantage of the new technology and new attitudes toward communications.

You Tube and The Digital Culture

March 23, 2009 By: frbobscorner Category: Faith & Culture, Lifestyle, Media No Comments →

Years ago I was a huge fan of Marshall McLuhan (Media is the Message), and Theilard DeChardin who wrote about Cosmic Consciousness (Noosphere). As I watched this Video by Professor Michael Wesch from Kansas State Univ., I couldn’t help but think of these two men. If you have High Speed and an hour of time,  and are interested in exploring the Digital Age, specifically You Tube, then here is the video for you.

The Postures of Mass: Sit, Stand, and Kneel

November 17, 2007 By: frbobco Category: American Church, Eucharist, Evangelization, Faith & Culture, Liturgy, Media, Podcasts, Vodcast No Comments →

The National Catholic Register did a story on video as a means of evangelization:

“The latest innovation on the Internet is the rise of Catholic video podcasts, otherwise known as vodcasts. Through YouTube and other media, Catholics have been able to spread the faith, provide historical footage and draw attention to liturgical abuses.”

Here is an example on ‘You Tube’ of a video on why we sit, stand, and kneel at Mass. Do you know why? If you don’t, this little video will solve the problem.[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/8NFuu6W392k" width="425" height="350" wmode="transparent" /]

An Audience At Any Cost – Selling the Children

August 18, 2007 By: frbobscorner Category: Media 1 Comment →

CBS is about to launch a new reality TV show called, ‘Kid’s Nation’. When I read in the New York Times what these children endured and the medical services they required after their 40 day ordeal I was shocked-outraged…. It would appear that even our children have become a commodity to be marketed and sold. If you would like to read this article click this link to the New York Times. (You will need to set up a free account to read (email and password only), but once you do there is free access to many of their news items.)

The Lost Tomb of Jesus – Masterful Deception

March 07, 2007 By: frbobscorner Category: Media No Comments →

Only master film makers with a Hollywood connection are capable of creating such a convincing deception as, The Lost Tomb of Jesus. (I saw it last night on Vision TV. I thought this specialty channel was supposed to be an honest ally in our search for God in this modern world, but I guess I was mistaken.)

The film is so expertly crafted that one is easily conned into believing that the world’s Christians are in for the shock of their life.

James Cameron, an Oscar winning producer, and Simcha Jacobovici, the film’s Israeli-born director, have created a powerful fraud that is sure to have both men smiling at the bank, and the gullible swallowing their charade of scholarship.
