Sr. Joan captures many of the thoughts I have had since I saw the masked man put a noose around Saddam Hussein’s neck. Saddam was no Saint, in fact, he sanctioned the death of nearly two million people during his time. Did hanging him really further the cause of justice and peace? Was this justice or revenge? Have we come to a time in history when we need to rethink our response to evil, and when society has a right to kill?
