Sr. Joan captures many of the thoughts I have had since I saw the masked man put a noose around Saddam Hussein’s neck. Saddam was no Saint, in fact, he sanctioned the death of nearly two million people during his time. Did hanging him really further the cause of justice and peace? Was this justice or revenge? Have we come to a time in history when we need to rethink our response to evil, and when society has a right to kill?

“In the exam room, her fetus filled the monitor once again, this time 7 months old. The sonogram showed the beating heart, the rib cage, the right hand a tiny fist held close to the face. The fetus yawned, fell asleep, woke up again.
“He’s a cutie,” the nurse said, taking screen captures of different poses.”
